Freedom Was in Sight: A Graphic History of Reconstruction in the Washington, D.C., Region

The Georgetown Center for the Study of Slavery and Its Legacies was pleased to host a talk with Professor Kate Masur, Board of Visitors Professor of History at Northwestern University.

This event was held as part of annual programming for D.C. Emancipation Day, commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the 1862 DC Compensated Emancipation Act, the law that abolished slavery in the District of Columbia.
