Freedom Ship: The Uncharted History of Escaping Slavery by Sea

The Center for the Study of Slavery and Its Legacies hosted a talk by historian Marcus Rediker, Distinguished Professor of Atlantic History at the University of Pittsburgh, about his latest book, Freedom Ship: The Uncharted History of Escaping Slavery by Sea, from Viking-Penguin. Professor Rediker’s “histories from below,” including The Slave Ship: A Human History, have won numerous awards, including the George Washington Book Prize, and have been translated into nineteen languages worldwide. Freedom Ship explores the history of the maritime underground railroad.
